The Starz reboot of Star Wars: The Last Jedi is about a lot more than the first Star Wars film, the network’s chairman announced Monday.
“It’s about the future of our family,” Starz chief content officer Michael Nathanson told reporters during a conference call.
“And Star Wars is the future.
And we’re going to be in that future.”
The news comes a few days after The Last Starfighter, which premiered on the premium cable network in 2019, was released.
Starz plans to release four Star Wars spinoff movies, including one with a female lead.
Star Wars fans have been vocal about the series’ portrayal of women and sexual assault in the Star Wars universe.
The Last War and the original Star Wars trilogy were rebooted for a second movie in 2018, and a new trilogy is currently in development.
Starz will premiere its Star Wars series in the fall.
